Accident at home? Not me!

Welcome
My name is Amy and I want to share with you some of my personal experience. I've always heard that most accidents occur around the home. Apart from a few trips and slips I've never had a serious accident -at home or otherwise... Until this past December.

On a normal day with three active boys, I was simply walking through my own kitchen and unexpectedly, a serving platter that I had stored above my cabinets fell. Unfortunately it was heavy and made of ceramic, so when it hit my countertop it broke apart and proceeded to fall to the floor. I happened to be in its path. This rogue platter sliced about half way through my Achilles tendon.

Now, I'm not looking for sympathy (sniff), but this past winter on crutches was not one I care to repeat. This unexpected accident made me think. No one ever plans for an accident - duh. So, living paycheck to paycheck, how was I going to pay my bills?

I know that the economy currently sucks- aren't we all living it? I've always heard that a savings account should have enough dough to keep you going for like 6 months or so, but who really has that? Luckily for me, my employer was sympathetic and allowed me to continue to work on crutches (minus time off for repair surgery).

Anyway, my point is, I am more aware of what could happen now. I still have no solutions for preventing accidents (that's why they're called accidents) nor how to plan for them. But, in some alternate universe, I will learn how to make my dollars stretch more and actually try to get some savings. That requires an account right?

Amys Learning Spot

Hello, my name is Amy and I am always learning new things. I started this blog just to see how one works. I am interested in any and all feedback about the internet.

So far the internet has just been a tool for me to send e-mails to friends and family and the occasional shopping trip for gifts and essentials I can't seem to find on my latest trip to the store.

Now I am starting to see that there is so much more out there. Almost any topic you can think of seems to have its very own website. The more I learn, the more I plan to share right here. Getting started is the scariest and most exciting part. I'm finding out that it really is true that you learn something new every day.
